In response to the growing opioid addiction public emergency, the Commonwealth of Virginia passed new laws and regulations that govern the prescribing of opioids and buprenorphine.  The new provisions became effective on March 15, 2017.  Among many other provisions, Virginia Physicians must now satisfy a 2-hour opioid prescription CME requirement prior to renewing licensure to practice medicine.

This program is designed to satisfy the new CME requirement by educating program participants about the new Virginia laws and regulations covering the prescribing of opioids and buprenorphine.  Specifically, program participants will receive detailed instruction regarding the following topics:

1) Management of Acute Pain
2) Treatment of Acute Pain with Opioids
3) Medical Records for Acute Pain
4) Management of Chronic Pain
5) Prescribing of Buprenorphine
6) Current Requirements to Comply with Virginia’s Prescription Monitoring Program
