Building a Culture of Compliance with the HIPAA Modules is an interactive online course intended to give the learner the basics of the Privacy, Security and Breach Notification Rules. Additionally, participants will be able to assess their compliance with HIPAA and will help them prepare in the unlikely event that their practice is audited by the Department of Health and Human Services.

In Module I, participants will learn the parameters of the HIPAA Privacy rule. Throughout the course, the participant will gain an understanding of the material through Real Life examples, specific language in HIPAA, and video vignettes of actual scenarios our insureds face. At the conclusion of the first module, participants will be required to take a 40 question quiz to test their knowledge of the material. An 80% success rate is required to pass the quiz and move on to the next module. Once passed, the participant will receive notification and be prompted to “finish” the module. Please click the “finish” button on the bottom right side of the screen and the program should then close. Then, allow the courseware to save your progress and click on "go back to course details" to return the course modules. You will see your passing score and that you now have the ability to move on to the next module.

In Module II, participants will gain an understanding of the HIPAA Security Rule. Similar to the first module, this module will employ Real Life examples, HIPAA specific language and definitions, as well as video vignettes. Additionally, participants will learn security standards and safeguards to take against potential attacks to their practices’ systems. Unlike the first module, participants will be tasked to take a Self-Assessment quiz at the end of the module. This module is un-graded and focuses on ways to improve office security. Each response will be met with instant feedback on ways to improve security or further validation of good office security practices. Like Module I, the participant must click the “finish” button on the final slide after the quiz. Like before, allow the courseware to finish saving your data and click the link to return to the Course Details page. Once back in to the “Course Details” page in the LMS, you can select Module III and move on to the final lesson of the course.

Module III will allow participants to understand the parameters of the Breach Notification Rule. Using similar learning techniques as Modules I and II, in this module, the learner will gain an understanding of what a breach is, what to do when a breach occurs, and how to notify patients and DHHS of a breach. Similar to Module I, this module employs a 25 question quiz at the end of the lesson. Once an 80% success rate is achieved, the participant can finish the course. Simply close the window and allow the courseware to save your progress, just like before. Once you are back you your “Course Details” screen, it will show that the course is completed. You will know this since all of the green "GO" buttons will now be blue. There is nothing left for you to do at this point.

Once completed, Medical Mutual/Professionals Advocate will obtain notification of the completion. Certificates of Completion will be mailed to the participants and the 5% Risk Management discount will be applied if applicable.
